I would recommend:
1) 250G or 500G for OS drive
I put my DLLs into Os bulldoze folders named: 32vst, 32vst-agree, 64vst , 64vst-hold, 64vst- For MM.
The "agree" folders are where i put DLLs earlier deleting, or for any problematic ones, or for alternating skins embedded in the DLL, etc.
The "64vst-for MM" is where I put symlinks for use in sound editors and video editors if I practice non desire the programme scanning the whole vst folder. You could put copies of the DLLs but it is worth it to larn to use symlinks.
Just a spoiler well-nigh symlinks--> Symlinks are shortcuts that make the OS think the shortcut is the real folder.
Most VSTs let you put the libraries where you lot want these days, but I let installers put them in default locations and then symlink.
I practise the aforementioned with many
preset folders, because I have many customized with third party add-ons, and do not want to take to rebuild them if I need to reinstall or restore the OS.
And then, about all my libraries and presets are on other drives. (Many presets are in vendor folders within the user
"Documents" binder.
A few are originally placed with the DLLs by the installer, and then I find them and move them, too.
I do continue the
VST DLL folders on the OS drive, because that should friction match with the
registry, and what is in the
"Program Data" folder and in
"Plan Files\Common Files\VST3" .
Presets and Libraries, on the other hand, are more independent of the VST itself and the Bone.
Then I move those and employ symlinks
But in that location is lots of program stuff i don't care about and don't want contained copies. That stuff just belongs with the installed program/setup. In that location are likewise enough of VSTs that i do not take 3rd party stuff for, and if I practice save personal presets, I simply make a folder for them on my personal "Studio" bulldoze and symlink from there.
But for those that I have 3rd party presets, I always motion them to another drive and symlink them.
When I do an update or need to reinstall, etc, i just rename my whole "Daw Lib 1" folder to "Daw Lib 1.x" and then any presets etc will become placed in the default existent location in "Documents" or whatever, and I have saved my preset setup from getting messed up.
After install I check the newly installed presets, and if information technology is just the normal manufactory, i delete information technology. If annihilation is added of course i will grab that
